Failed Strobe Breaker Switch
While taxiing, pilot noticed smoke coming from light switch area. Aircraft returned to base uneventfully and was handed over to maintenance. Examination revealed the right-hand strobe light circuit breaker switch did not shut off the strobe lights.
Several wires along the length of the circuit were dark with a burnt smell, and chafing to ground was noted at the wingtip connector to the strobe lights. The switch was slightly bulged from overheating, with a burnt smell.
Affected wiring and circuit breaker were replaced IAW maintenance manual.
