The pilot made a forced landing at about 1244 Pacific time following a loss of engine power. The airplane sustained substantial damage; the private pilot and one passenger were not injured. Visual conditions prevailed.
At 1225, the pilot told ATC the engine was losing power and he was having a hard time maintaining altitude. The pilot later reported the oil temperature rising followed by a loss of oil pressure before the engine failed. At 1237, ATC lost radar and radio contact. As he was setting up for the forced landing, the engine quit and the propeller went to the feathered position.
