The airplane was substantially damaged during a forced landing to a field at about 1430 Eastern time following a total loss of engine power. The private pilot and passenger were seriously injured. Visual conditions prevailed.
The pilot subsequently reported the airplane was in cruise flight at 5000 feet msl when it experienced a total loss of engine power. The pilot attempted to glide to a field; however, during the landing, the airplane struck a fence and trees. A post-crash fire consumed a majority of the wreckage.
