At about 1034 Pacific time, the airplane collided with wires, sustaining substantial damage. The private pilot suffered minor injuries. Visual conditions prevailed. Earlier, the pilot notified ATC the canopy was open, and he needed to return for landing immediately. While the airplane was on short final, the canopy appeared to separate. The airplane collided with power lines about 300 feet from the runways approach end and came to rest inverted in a street.
