The airplane was destroyed when it impacted terrain at approximately 0655 Mountain time. Instrument conditions prevailed. A post-impact fire ensued; the pilot and two pilot-certificated passengers were fatally injured. Multiple witnesses reported seeing the accident airplane flying low to the ground and as it crossed a highway. Shortly thereafter, the airplane pitched down to a near-vertical attitude and began to rotate. The airplane impacted the ground nose first and a fire erupted.
