The airplane was destroyed when it impacted terrain at approximately 0850 Central time following a loss of control while maneuvering after an ILS approach. The Airline Transport pilot and sole occupant sustained fatal injuries. Instrument conditions prevailed. A witness observed the airplane enter a climbing left turn to the south, disappearing into the overcast cloud layer. Shortly thereafter, the airplane was observed in a “20-degree, nose-down, wings-level attitude” on a southeasterly heading. All major components were present at the crash site. The leading edge surfaces of the vertical and horizontal stabilizers were coated with to inch of clear ice.
