The airplane was destroyed at about 0600 Central time when it collided with terrain while executing an instrument approach. The solo airline transport pilot was fatally injured. An IFR flight plan was filed; night instrument conditions prevailed. The airplane came to rest inverted about 750 feet east of Runway 31. A preliminary review of radar data revealed the airplane was conducting an approach to Runway 31 and descending. A weather observation taken about 38 nm northwest of the accident site at 0553 included visibility of a mile in fog and an indefinite ceiling.
