At about 1150 Eastern time, the glider was substantially damaged when it impacted a road, following an in-flight loss of control during approach. The private pilot was fatally injured. Visual conditions prevailed.
Earlier that day, the pilot had completed an uneventful local flight in the accident glider. The second flight also appeared routine; however, as the glider approached to land, the left wing dropped and the glider spiraled nose-down toward the ground, impacting about ½ mile short of the runway.
