At 2202 Central time, the airplane collided with terrain following a loss of control while landing. The instrument-rated private pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was consumed by post-impact fire. An instrument flight plan was filed and visual meteorological conditions existed at the time of the accident.

A controller later reported the airplane appeared to be a little high and fast as it approached the airport. A witness reported hearing the airplane as it was landing. He reported that the engine was loud and that it “revved up” as if the pilot was initiating a go-around. He then heard the impact and saw the fireball. He reported there was moderate to heavy rain falling at the time of the accident.
