At 1705 Mountain time, the airplane impacted a chain link fence about mile from the departure airport. The airplane sustained structural damage to the wings and fuselage. The private pilot and commercial pilot/passenger were not injured; there were no ground injuries. The pilot subsequently stated the airplanes performance was calculated for the 7500-foot density altitude and the available runway offered more than 2000 feet of extra runway for the takeoff. The pilot stated he performed a short-field takeoff, and he raised the landing gear and retracted the flaps from 15 degrees to 0 degrees. The pilot stated that the landing gear would not “come up.” He further reported that the engine was not sputtering or missing, but running at full power.
