The airplane was substantially damage at about 2245 Eastern time during a forced landing into trees following a total loss of engine power. The airline transport pilot was seriously injured. Visual conditions prevailed.
The flight departed Waco, Texas, at about 1830. The pilot had recently purchased the airplane and was flying it back to his home airport in New York. During the flight, the pilot told ATC he wanted to land for fuel. Approximately five minutes later, the pilot reported that the airplane experienced a total loss of engine power.
