At about 2000 Central time, the airplane lost engine power during cruise flight. The solo private pilot was not injured but the airplane sustained substantial damaged during the forced landing. Night visual conditions prevailed.

The pilot later stated he was at about 12,000 feet msl and wanted to see how far the airplane would glide, so he pulled back the mixture and throttled back. At about 8000 feet, the pilot added the mixture and throttle but the engine would not respond. The pilot elected to conduct a forced landing in a field. During the landing the airplane nosed over and came to rest in the inverted position.
